Some hard hits and failed strategies. Players are even harder pressed to not give up as the cash prize pool keeps increase. Moving into the thousands of dollars for winning these matches. Even more reason to say “Never Give Up”.

*Spoiler Warning: Results will be revealed in this story*

Kim, Tae-Hwan (NEXLiveForever) vs Kwak, Han-Eul (MakaPrime)

Game 1 Scrap Station

In the first matchup of the RO8 round of play in the GSL Starcraft 2 Tournament, we see NEXLiveForever in the right position and MakaPrime in the left position. Its a mirror matchup between two terran players. Both players start with standard builds although into different paths. LiveForever opted gas before racks and Maka went racks then gas.

Neither players went to wall-off. Both players do opt for early marines to take the Xel’Naga tower in the middle of the map. Maka wins the quick skirmish for control.

Following that encounter, both players move towards a drop attempt. MakaPrime’s attempt does succeed and devastates LiveForever’s mineral line. Still, he stays in the game to attempt a comeback. Both sides continue a buildup with tanks with Maka continuing drop harass with his original force.

A final push with marines, marauders and tanks earns MakaPrime a GG from LiveForever

Game 2 Metalopolis

The second game starts with NEXLiveForever starts in the southern base and MakaPrime in the eastern position. While the positioning is close, neither player starts a early rush. MakaPrime begins a walling off of his base with a supply depot and a barracks while LiveForever forgoes the wall altogether.

Maka’s scout sees into LiveForever’s base right away while LiveForever ends up taking the long way around for a late scout. Maka does attempt to place a barracks out of his natural but LiveForever’s late scout timing ends up spotting the second barracks. At that point, LiveForever sets up a supply and bunker wall and loads up with marines.

Maka continues racks buildup with a third as LiveForever adds a tank into the mix. Sensing he is way behind, Maka attempts an all-in. The manuver fails hard with the Bunker Siege wall. Using the sudden shift in momentum, LiveForever throws in his own all-in. However, the combo of marines and tanks tears through Maka’s small defense forces of Marines and Marauders.

After a few moments to look for a way to comeback, MakaPrime throws out the GG giving NEX LiveForever the win.

Game 3 Steppes of War

In the northeast is placed NEXLiveForever while MakaPrime ends up in the southwest. Neither player opts for a wall. Maka goes fast factory with LiveForever going early gas and for fast factory as well. Maka is slightly ahead in his build and pushes into fast Thors. LiveForever opts for Hellions.

Maka and LiveForever push fast with 1 Hellion and 3 Marines with Maka barely winning and uses the one surviving marine to scout his opponents defenses. Maka doing a scan to see LiveForever’s base, starts up Vikings but is facing Thors from LiveForever.

LiveForever sends his Thor in with a huge group of SCV and in a huge underdog battle, matches up against Sieges and Marines. The hero Thor takes it all on with a huge health boost from a large pool of SCV repair squad. Taking units out one-by-one LiveForever comes out on top. Earning a GG from MakaPrime.

NEXLiveForever 2:1 MakaPrime

Kim, Won-Ki(a Fruit Dealer) Zerg vs Song, Jun-Hyuk (oGsInCa) Protoss

Game 1 Kulas Ravine

In the first game of the second match of RO8 GomTV GSL tournament puts Fruit Dealer in the northeast base and oGsInCa in the southwest. Fruit Dealers immediately moves into a 6 pool strategy. The rush produces a small 6-pack of Zerglings.

Fruit Dealer nearly loses a breakthrough into the base by not using his Drone to block InCa’s wall attempt. The Zerglings and probes go head to head after the Zerglings take out InCa’s sole pylon powering his gateway. InCa does get a pylon back up while the Probes hold off the Zerg and get a Zealot on the field to clear the zerglings.

The damage is extensive to InCa’s mineral line and he isn’t able to keep up with Fruit’s zerg reinforcements dispite pushing out an addition couple of Zealots. A quick GG from oGsInCa.

Game 2 Lost Temple

For the second game, Fruit Dealer gets placed in the northern position and oGsInCa into the southern position. InCa does start with a pylon to start a wall off. Fruit starts a far more standard build than the last game. InCa places a Gateway and starts a scout.

A quick zealot is pushed out by InCa as Fruit puts out a quick expand. A zealot is sent out to do some damage versus the new zerg expansion before Zerglings enter the field. Dispite some small loses, zerglings are massed up quickly. The Zealot is pushed out and a continued mass sends a small force south towards InCa.

InCa attempts to use tech buildings to setup a wall-off as Fruit pushes into Banelings. The banelings chase out Zealots defending the Protoss expansion allowing zerglings to clear out all the entire expansion.

InCa immediately walls off with a four gate build. After a bit of poking by the the Zerglings, the wall breaks and the banelings rush in towards the probe line. The probes are immediately and kite the banelings around. He does lose a half dozen probes to a baneling explosion but is able to kite against both the rest of the banelings and a half dozen more from reinforcements.

As InCa is finally able to tech into Stalkers, and Fruit moves into Roaches. Fruit masses a few more zerglings and banelings and knocks out an expand attempt from InCa. The Banelings hold the sentries at bay while the Zerglings take care of the impending Nexus.

More Banelings mass and take out a half dozen sentries. While that push goes on, Fruit pushes out a lot of Roaches. Holding them back, InCa thinks he has an opportunity to fight back but walks his stalkers into a Roach mass. The Roaches follow the stalkers back to the Protoss main and finishes InCa off and takes the win.

a Fruit Dealer 2:0 oGsInCa

  1. Tim says:

My pick to win: aFruitDealer (Zerg)

This guy can do it all. He can early game rush, he can cheese, and he can man handle you late game. His micro is so intense, and pairs up perfect with his macro. This guy expands very, VERY fast when he thinks it will go midgame+, and he constantly puts pressure on his opponent and will stop you from getting overly expansive.

    Definitely my pick to win.
