Seo, Ki-Soo (sSKS) vs Kim, Sung-Je (HopeTorture)
Game 1 Metalopolis
For the first game of the third match of the day sees sSKS in the northern base and HopeTorture is put in the Eastern base. Both players start standard builds. Both scouts do end up taking the long route to end up with somewhat late base scouts.
sSKS pushes into Chronoboosted Warpgates while HopeTorture works a one racks expansion. Some late scout action occurs with Hope taking out one of sSKS probes. sSKS opts to forgo a strong ground force to rush Void Rays.
A quick Reaper scout from Hope spots sSKS’ hidden stargate and triggers the Protoss attack. As the voids charge up, Hope moves Marines in to intercept. Despite charging up the Void beam on a supply depot and engaging the marines at full power, the Voids are pushed back by a Marine stim.
During the subsuquent lull in action, sSKS expands and continues to harass with a wounded Void Ray. sSKS moves into 4 gate with a robotic facility and stargate with Hope going 4 racks and a Factory and starport.
Hope forms into a classic Marine/Marauder/Medivac ball while sSKS gets into position with Zealot/Stalker/Sentry/Immortal. The two engage with a Colossus finishing just as the fight begins and guarantees that Hope would disengage. Countering the Colossus addition by adding Vikings allows Hope to push back and succeed against sSKS’ army.
HopeTorture continues the push and overwhelms sSKS’ final defensive Stalkers for the win.
Game 2 Steppes of War
In the northeast base we see sSKS with HopeTorture placed in the southwest base. sSKS sticks around with his scout and attempts to distract Hope’s SCVs but the plan backfires and sSKS loses his probe. Hope moves to 2 gate against sSKS’ 1 gate/Cybernetics Core.
HopeTorture starts to produce heavy into Marauders while sSKS goes with a Zealot/Sentry combo. sSKS also moves into Robo in the meantime. Double Immortal is added to the Protoss Army. This sets up sSKS for a nice defensive for an expansion.
Seeing sSKS’ army, Hope moves to producing Medivacs and creating a solid MMM ball. With a bit of luck, Hope does spot an Observer and takes it out with a scan. The MMM ball moves in and engages with the support of 4 Medivacs. Forcefields go up like crazy completely dividing up the Terran army.
Reinforcements come in to prevent the complete disengage by Hope. Using the momentum, sSKS is pushed back dispite popping out Immortal after Immortal. Hope does take a chance and knocks out the Robotics Facility to remove Immortals from the equation.
A base cap stalemate is put into place by Hope to keep sSKS from expanding back out. He also uses the time to add a ghost into the mix. Giving into the pressure of waiting, sSKS pushes out and falls into Hope’s MMM ball. The mistake costs sSKS the game and the match.
Final: sSKS 0:2 HopeTorture
Kim, Sang-Cheol (oGsEnsnare) vs Ahn, Hong-Wook (HongUnPrime)
Game 1 Steppes of War
In the first game of the final RO8 match up for GomTV’s GSL Starcraft 2 Tournament, oGsEnsnare is put in teh northern base with HongUnPrime in the southern base. Ensnare sneaks in a Factory build after the scout to setup a Hellion cheese rush.
Ensnare wisely puts up ramp pressure to keep HongUn from taking out the proxy factory as the Hellions are produced. The resulting rush is devastating against the Protoss Probe count, placing a lot of pressure on HongUn’s economy.
Thanks to the early pressure, Ensnare gets a huge macro advantage. The pressure is forced into an all-in strategy. While things don’t look terrible from HongUn’s perspective, Ensnare has secretly setup a Hellion drop. The drop is met with zero resistance and the mineral line is wiped out.
The GG is forced and oGsEnsnare takes the win from HongUnPrime.
Game 2 Metalopolis
For the second game, oGsEnsnare is placed in the eastern base, and HongUnPrime finds himself in the southern base. Scouts go out and build proceed as normal.
The army composition ends up similar to the previous game, at least, had the build been allowed to proceed beyond the proxy factory.
Dropships showup as HongUn is just moving out of his base. Caught out of position, he takes some big damage. He does defend the drop and counters immediately with stalkers immortals and sentries. The push is defended thanks to a bunker on the Terran main.
HongUn falls to far behind in the macro game and is forced into a GG knocking him out of the GSL tournament.
Final: oGsEnsnare 2:0 HongUnPrime
