Starcraft Protoss Strategy - Beating Colossus  | read this item

The giant robot monsters of the Starcraft 2 Protoss army.  The Protoss Colossus is a force to be reckoned with.  It is the ultimate in ground superiority.  If you show a largely ground based army, you will most likely see a Colossus down the line to counter your forces.  Added in with the Extended Thermal Lance ability, they can likely take you down without suffering many losses.

As a Protoss player, you can of course bring out your own Colossus, but there are much better ways of dealing with the threat.  Let’s take a look at some of these in our latest look into how to defeat units.

Key Counter Unit:

Anti-air Units – One of the biggest downsides of the Colossus is that it is vulnerable to anti-air attacks.  Being a massive ground unit, it is considered both a ground unit and air unit.  However, it is only capable of attacking ground forces.  Bringing in air units will allow you to safely take down a Colossus with no significant risk.

Immortals – The Colossus is an armored unit.  Meaning it is more vulnerable to the Immortal’s attack which gains bonuses against armored targets.  In addition, the Hardened Shields ability of the unit will reduce the Colossus attacks to 10 while the shields hold.

Key Strategic Points:

Watch out for Cliffs – Protoss Colossus are capable of traversing most obstacles and small cliffs.  If you utilize a ground force, remember that a cliff will not slow the Colossus down.  It is also able to use this ability to gain nearby high ground to reduce your ability to attack it.  Disengage if you are losing sight on the unit.
